The Big Wave Dining Table by Fiam Italia, designed by Ludovica & Roberto Palomba, is a striking statement piece that combines sculptural design with innovative materials. If you want a dining table that entirely redefines how light and material interact in a room, the Big Wave (designed by the legendary duo Ludovica + Roberto Palomba for Fiam Italia) is a breathtaking feat of modern engineering. Fiam Italia is globally renowned for mastering the art of curved and sculpted glass. With the Big Wave, they take that legacy to an entirely new level, creating a centerpiece that feels incredibly solid and architectural, yet fluid and constantly changing.
The absolute soul of the Big Wave is its massive, sculptural pedestal. Instead of standard metal or wood legs, the base is constructed from separate, monumentally thick (30 mm) blocks of Fiam's proprietary DV-Glass. The base elements are intricately crafted with vertical stripes of fused lamellar glass. Depending on the perspective from which you view the table, the glass seems to shift and move. It captures the energy and fluidity of crashing ocean waves or melting ice, completely changing its visual weight as you walk around the room, creating the optical illusion. You can choose a highly sophisticated, moody aesthetic with Transparent Smoked or Transparent Bronzed glass, or make a vivid, high-fashion statement with Multicolor colored glass stripes that bounce stunning, tinted reflections across your dining room floor.
To perfectly balance the icy, translucent drama of the glass base, the Big Wave offers a variety of stunning tabletop finishes, allowing you to dictate the exact mood of your dining space: A massive 15 mm thick tempered glass top, back-lacquered in deep monochrome colors like Graphite Grey, Dark Brown, or Black. This provides a high-gloss, sleek reflection that mirrors the room above; For lovers of material contrast, you can crown the glass base with a rich, veneered wood top in a moody Tobacco finish, brilliantly pairing the warmth of natural timber with the cold brilliance of the glass below; If you prefer a raw, tactile, wabi-sabi aesthetic, the top can be hand-spatulated with Ecomalta (a fine-grained, eco-friendly resin/clay mixture) in earthy tones like Tobacco MTA or Absolute Black MNE. It creates a stunning, matte, stucco-like finish that completely softens the room and begs to be touched. The Big Wave comes in two rectangular sizes, starting at 94.5” for 8 to 10 people, and 118” for 10 to 12 people.
