Plisset Glass Dining Table

By Cattelan Italia | Designer: Raffaello Galiotto

Most of Cattelan Italia’s dining tables lean heavily into sharp, industrial geometries, such as steel blades, intersecting trestles, and geometric cages. The Plisset Glass Dining Table (designed by Raffaello Galiotto) breaks completely away from that mold. It is a deeply poetic, organic design that reaches backward into classical Roman and Greek art history, using modern technology to achieve something that looks incredibly soft out of solid stone. It is a table that relies entirely on a beautiful, delicate paradox: heavy, pleated stone paired with water-clear transparency.

The absolute soul of the Plisset is its spectacular pedestal base, which is carved out of matte Palissandro White Marble. Rather than treating marble like a rigid, blocky column, Galiotto forms the stone into continuous, sinuous vertical pleats. It mimics the look of heavy, flowing fabric drapery or a permanently puckered silk gown caught in a gentle breeze. Because the pleats create physical ridges and valleys along the marble, the base catches the ambient lighting of your dining room dynamically. Throughout the day, the shifting sunlight creates an elegant, moving rhythm of high-contrast shadows and soft white highlights along the column.

To hide this beautiful pleated stone base beneath a solid wood or stone top would be a design crime, which is why the transparent glass top is so vital. It acts like a water-clear canvas that keeps your room feeling incredibly light and open, ensuring the sculpted marble pleats are fully visible from every vantage point. Standard tempered glass carries a natural iron content that leaves a distinct greenish-blue tint along its edge profile. If you want the marble to look pure and un-tinted from above, choose the Extra-Clear Glass option. It is heavily filtered to give you water-pure transparency, making the heavy, $15\text{ mm}$ thick surface look completely weightless.

Larger rectangular or barrel-shaped formats scale up to a dual-pedestal layout, where the massive glass top simply rests flat over two matching draped columns.

The Plisset Glass Table is designed for a home that wants to feel like a boutique art gallery without feeling cold or sterile. While industrial steel tables can sometimes feel sharp or aggressive, the soft, fabric-like curves of the Plisset's marble base instantly inject romance, history, and warmth into an environment. It is the perfect choice if you have a stunning statement rug you don't want to hide, or an upscale room that calls for a truly fluid, timeless focal point.
